Coming Soon!

This fall we are excited to offer a few open enrollment programs in addition to our private guiding experiences. We will be offering 1-day gym-to-crag clinics, 3-day crack climbing clinics, 2-day rock rescue clinics, and a 4-day clinic based in Unaweep Canyon and the Black Canyon. We are also excited to offer a Women’s Advanced Rockcraft clinic put on by Peggy Flavin in Unaweep and The Black Canyon! See below for descriptions on individual clinics.

Dates don’t work for your schedule? Looking for something we don’t offer like a learn to lead or intro to multi pitch clinic? We offer private guiding options as well that are catered to your needs. Contact us for more information on pricing and availability.

Western Hard Rock Clinic

  • This 4 day program will take your climbing to the next level as we progress through a variety of single pitch and multipitch climbs in Unaweep Canyon and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

We’ll start out with some review on crack and face climbing techniques in a single pitch setting on day 1. Unaweep Canyon hosts a variety of high quality cragging routes from 5.8-5.12. Your guide will use this day to gauge the ability levels of the group in order to choose appropriate routes for the team on the following days.

Day 2 will also be spent in Unaweep on 1-2 short multipitch routes in the canyon. Possible routes include Sweet Sunday Serenade (5.9, 3 pitches), Obe Won Canobe (5.9, 3 pitches), and Questions and Answers (5.10+, 3 pitches).

Day 3 will be a rest/travel day. The North Rim of the Black Canyon is a 2 hour drive from the Grand Junction area. We’ll spend the night at the campground and prepare for the next day in the canyon.

Day 4 will be an adventurous outing into the depths of the canyon and back. Possible routes include Maiden Voyage/King me (5.9/10a, 5-8 pitches), Leisure/Summer (5.9+, 6 pitches), Russian Arete (5.9+, 8-10 pitches) and Escape Artist (5.10a, 10 pitches)

We’ll plan to spend another night in the campground.

  • This is not a beginner clinic. Climbers should be comfortable following traditional routes with sustained 5.8 climbing and sections of 5.9+ climbing. Depending on the group’s ability we may climb harder routes.

Climbers should also be experienced with multipitch climbing systems, removing trad gear and be well versed in belaying and rapelling techniques

Women’s

Advanced Rockcraft

  • The goal of this program is for participants to learn about the skills required to embark on big adventures and to empower women to safely pursue ambitious rock climbing objectives.

Our program will kick-off with 2 days of climbing at Unaweep, where we will work on climbing efficiency, planning for big routes, and exploring the craft of traditional climbing. From there, we will travel to the Black Canyon where we will put our skills to the test by climbing one of the classic moderate routes that the canyon has to offer.

  • This program is open to all who identify as women in a way that is significant to them.

You must meet the program prerequisites or outline a clear plan for achieving them prior to the program’s start date. They are simply guidelines that will help us determine if this program is the right fit for you to succeed on the planned climbing objectives and within the group setting.

    Program Prerequisites:

Must feel comfortable top-roping or following 5.10 on outdoor rock climbs.

Must have a thorough understanding of basic climbing skills including tying in with a figure 8 knot, top-rope and lead belaying, and basic commands.

Must have a basic understanding of removing traditional protection (cams, nuts, etc.).

Recommended to follow (or lead) at least 5 multi-pitch routes of any grade prior to this program.

Must be intrigued about exploring the dark arts of rockcraft in the depths of the Black Canyon.
