Ancient Art
To paraphrase desert pioneer Layton Kor, when it comes to some of the more slender spires of southwest, some things you climb “not because they’re there, because they won’t be there forever.”
Ancient Art is an iconic, must-do tower that is sure to be a memorable day for both sandstone virgins and crusty desert rats alike. Most famous for having one of the tiniest summits out there that you can still stand on, the route itself is fairly moderate and climbs a series of pebble-strewn chimney features and pocketed faces before reaching “The Sidewalk”, a narrow ridge that leads to its infamous corkscrew summit.
